Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)
2024–2029
At Sargent Public Schools, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) serves as a roadmap for improving student learning and ensuring we provide the highest quality educational experience for every child.
The CIP is a five-year plan developed through collaboration among teachers, administrators, staff, parents, students, the Board of Education, and community members. It guides our instructional decisions, professional learning, and school improvement efforts while keeping student success at the center of everything we do.
Our 2024–2029 District Goal
Sargent Public Schools will ensure that at least 65% of students in grades K–12 demonstrate measurable growth in reading, as measured by district and state reading assessments, by implementing aligned, research-based literacy practices and consistent progress monitoring across all grade levels by the spring of 2029.
W.O.L.F. Power: Our District-Wide Reading Strategy
To support our Continuous Improvement Goal of increasing reading growth for all students, Sargent Public Schools has adopted the W.O.L.F. Power strategy. This consistent, research-based framework helps students actively engage with text, strengthen comprehension, and support their thinking with evidence.
By using the same reading strategy across grade levels and content areas, students develop the skills needed to become confident, independent readers.
🐺 W.O.L.F. Steps
W – Write or Verbalize the 3-Sentence Gist
After reading, students summarize the text by answering three key questions:
-
Who or what is this mostly about?
-
What is happening?
-
Why does it matter?
This helps students identify the most important ideas while strengthening comprehension and communication skills.
O – Observe the Main Idea
Students determine the central message or author's purpose and recognize the key details that support it.
L – Locate Text Evidence
Students return to the text to find specific evidence that supports their thinking or answers a question.
F – Find Proof and Explain It
Students cite evidence and explain how it supports their answer, helping them build critical thinking, reasoning, and written communication skills.
Why W.O.L.F. Power?
The W.O.L.F. Power strategy provides a common instructional language across classrooms, ensuring students consistently practice essential literacy skills. Through repeated use, students become stronger readers, writers, and thinkers while building the confidence to analyze and discuss a variety of texts.
Together, these strategies support our district's goal of ensuring at least 65% of K–12 students demonstrate measurable growth in reading by the spring of 2029.
